20 June 2015
What a night! Our vice-president and his lovely lady were married, and we had an amazing night in club uniform with formal accessories to celebrate the occasion. This archway framed the happy couple and guests. We even hired a heater so the celebrations could take place in mid-winter.

26 July 2013
We all dressed in medieval costumes for a wonderful medieval (k)night. A saucy wench served up a roast meal and all sorts of fine fare. We were entertained by a juggler and a jester. We feasted by candlelight in front of our newly renovated fireplace, then told funny jokes ...
24 May 2014
We celebrated the club’s thirty-eighth birthday in style, with a cake and lots of food (as usual). During the night we had a crazy hat competition and we watched a video of the club’s twenty-first birthday, when the recreation room had just been built and there was no heating, so everyone came rugged up. this time the fire kept us cosy and warm and many got into club uniform.
Tropical Island Night
22 March 2014
The equinox was celebrated at the club with a tropical island night. Many members and guests dressed for the occasion in Hawaiian shirts and sarongs. We even had a kava ceremony. And some went swimming. Is this the last for the season?
9 March 2014
A number of our members had an enjoyable time at the beach at Armands Bay. As well as the ACTNC group there were about fifteen other couples there. The ACTNC mob swam, walked the beach, buried one member in the sand, built sandcastles and swam some more. Some of us even got sunburnt! It was a fantastic day. Our club banner attracted quite a lot of attention while we were there. Thanks to the Armands Beach Leisure Group for inviting us all, and putting in all the effort needed to run a day like their ‘Fun in the Sun’ day.
22 March 2014
A bit late, but we celebrated St Valentine’s Day in style. We even had Cupid (a.k.a. known as our president) present. After the feasting we played charades. Even the little kids entered into the fun.
19 February 2014
On Wednesday, 19 February 2014, after a summer of very hot temperatures and almost no rain, a thunderstorm hit Thullande and what must have been a mini-tornado ripped through the grounds, uprooting trees, tearing off the shadecloth at the pool, and putting a hole in the bore pump shed. Fortunately there was only minor damage to members’ property. And the freshwater tanks were filled to overflowing, just when we were about to buy a tanker load of water!
25 January 2014
On the night before Australia Day we had a very successful Aussie dinner. Meat pies and tomato sauce of course, followed by pavlova and lamingtons. The club house was full of members new and old plus some visitors from interstate.
Australia Day itself was equally successful as we opened the club to people to join us for a Triple J hottest hits party. A number of visitors came to share in the fun.
30 November 2013
The Kris Kringle with a twist was a great hit again this year at the club’s Christmas party, and it took us about an hour and a half to get through it. There was a lot of wheeling and dealing and strategising going on to try and get the gift people most wanted. This year the most sought-after gift was a large photo frame. It was stolen so many times during the course of the evening it was hard to keep track. There was keen competition too for some of the chocolates.
9 November 2013
Thullande is looking fantastic these days, thanks to all those who have been helping out. All the guide posts have been freshly painted, a new pathway has been constructed to join up the sauna, toilet block and club house and we are working on improving and supplying water to the sites behind the pool.
26 October 2013
Thullande is a nature reserve, the home to many birds and other animals. Each year the local bird group counts the birds in the ACT and our club is one of the survey areas. This year nearly forty birds were recorded on one day in October.
26 October 2013
Our Halloween party was a great success. The children dressed up as witches and other frightening people and demanded treats. (But when asked for a trick, they didn’t know what to do!) Later we all had a Halloween party with lots of delicious food (as usual). Quite a few members dressed for the occasion.
28 September 2013
The weather is warming up in Canberra and so are our socials. Most of us were in club uniform for a German evening. We were pleased to have with us a couple of prospective members and two visitors from Victoria. And we also had to have kranskys (from a German company in South Australia) and sauerkraut (from Poland).
31 August 2013
The last day of August was fine and warm and a good number of members turned up for the annual general meeting. We were pleased to learn that we had a financial surplus and an increase in numbers. This was the first day of the season that people could be in the club uniform outside, and we all enjoyed the sausage sizzle. (The rose robin was a surprise visitor.)
Christmas in July
20 July 2013
On what must be the coldest day of the year we had our Christmas in July dinner. We held it in the afternoon so the children could join in and Santa arrived with (real) long flowing whiskers to hand out presents. It was a wonderful meal of turkey and everything else. And it might have been cold outside, but the fire kept it lovely and warm inside the recreation room. Then to cap it all off it snowed! (The little white dots in the picture are snowflakes.)
Soup and Spuds Like Crazy
22 June 2013
On the shortest night of the year our social was a soup and spuds night. We had jacket potatoes and a variety of things to pile on them. This was followed by a very crazy crazy whist card game. The food was wonderful and the cards enjoyable. Miserable weather in Canberra at the moment, but lovely and warm by the fire in the recreation room.
18 May 2013
Our May social celebrated the club’s birthday. We fired up the pizza oven and had a pizza and pasta night to celebrate. We listened to 70s music and looked at pictures of times past. Some of us even dressed in 70s clothes!
27 April 2014
A wonderful night of games and a roast dinner was enjoyed at the club for our social night in April.
20 April 2013
Our great Australia Day afternoon tea and Burns night was featured in a full-page article in the Autumn 2013 issue of Australian Sun and Health. Good news!
Bare Tracks, Food and Trivia
23 March 2013
The fourth Saturday night in March was a memorable night at Thullande with the fun-loving guys and gals from Bare Tracks Australia camped on site, a lovely three-course meal provided by our own ‘master chef’ and her able assistant (aka music and movie trivia quiz master extraordinaire) and a great roll-up of members - all the ingredients for a great party. It was great to see some old faces we’ve been missing for a while, and to welcome new ones.
26 January 2013
The night of Australia Day was also the inaugural ACT Nudist Club Burns Night. We gathered in the recreation room while a huge storm raged outside drowning out the bagpipes (a good thing?) and had a traditional Burns supper consisting of Scotch broth, lamb stew, cranachan and, of course, haggis, piped in, accompanied by Robbie Burns ‘Address to a Haggis’ and eaten (by some!). Whisky toasts were given and the lucky door prize was fitting for a nudist club—a bottle of Naked Scot whisky—won by lassie Heather.
26 January 2013
It all happens at once. 26 January is Australia Day, India’s national day and the day after Robbie Burns’ birthday. What to do? Well, at the ACT Nudist Club we went for the Aussie and the Scots and left the Indian curries for another occasion.
First, an Australia Day afternoon tea by the pool. The table was groaning with goodies, including a huge cake decorated with the Australian Flag. We then cooled off (?) from the 28° heat in our 30+° solar-heated swimming pool. We had fun splashing around or doing laps, until the lapsters were corralled to one end of the pool as the volleyball net went up and a game of leaps and bounds followed.
15 December 2012
There were only a few at the Christmas party this year, but those that were had a good time. We all brought something to eat and shared. This was followed by a Christmas quiz, which we didn’t do too well at, and presents for all. Great fun.
3 November 2012
Eighteen people turned up to partake of a fantastic fondue. Fondue parties require a lot of organising. There were oil and methylated spirit providers, steak, pork, prawn and chicken providers. Vegetable providers included capsicums, zucchinis, cauliflower and broccoli, and eighteen baked potatoes were successfully baked in the club oven. A lettuce hanging basket was attacked until it was nothing but stalks. The most favourite food? Battered cauliflower, believe it or not. Dessert was a mocha fondue sauce and a chocolate sauce (and a trifle). To these were added marshmellows, strawberries, grapes, melon, pineapple pieces and sponge fingers. Oh boy!
Wildlife at Thullande
27 October 2012
Amongst other things the club is a wildlife refuge. Eastern grey kangaroos, rabbits and even echidnas can be seen on the way in. Wedge-tailed eagles soar overhead. Scorpions have been seen in the kitchen. Foxes have been observed and so control measures have had to be put into place. And pictured above is something one of our younger members picked up. It is a shingleback lizard, which seems to live quite happily in the pool area. A few of our members are bird observers, so we might make a list of all the many birds seen in the club grounds.
20 October 2012
On a lovely hot, sunny day the cub put on a welcoming afternoon for prospective new members. After the leaflet distribution at the Living Green Festival we hoped to pick up a few prospective new members. And quite a few did respond by coming to the club for the afternoon. We lit up the sauna, and the pool warmed up to 24 degrees, so a number took the plunge.
13 October 2012
On the very sunny last day of Floriade, Canberra had its second Living Green Festival at the Albert Hall. The organisers had given us a tent, table, chairs and a sign that alongside our cartoon poster caught the eye of many a passer-by, who often noticed the words ‘Relax Naturally’, which we were trying to promote, first and foremost. This was often the hook to grab a person’s attention, so that we could start a conversation with them about the club and what we had to offer in the way of relaxing naturally. It was a fun day of conversing, cajoling, raising the awareness of our existence and of promoting nudism and of raising smiles.
Abolition of the Ratio
12 September 2012
Arising from discussion of the financial and membership reports at the AGM, the club membership supported a resolution from the floor (moved by a foundation member and enjoying almost universal support at the meeting) to abolish the convention under which the committee has maintained a 60:40 ratio of males to female members of the club. The club’s constitution has never prescribed a ratio. The motion requires the committee to still maintain a reasonable balance of the sexes, but abolition of the ratio will give the committee flexibility to accept deserving applications from men who have maintained an interest in becoming members and contributing to club activities and work.
12 August 2012
If you visit Thullande you will notice the improvement in the roads. Compare this picture to the previous one. One of our members is rarely seen without a chainsaw in hand, rendering the dead wood on site to firewood to make the recreation room and sauna or pizza experience the more enjoyable. He has also done a remarkable amount of clearing of overgrown vegetation to reduce the bushfire hazard. Thanks to working bees we have tidied up vegetation and loose boards and smartened buildings with paintwork.
Work and Trivia
19 May 2012
There was a great turnout for the working bee, sauna and social on 19 May.ﾠ We knocked off a few fire hazards. Our vacuum cleaner however has seen better days and seems to be spitting out nearly as much dust as it eats. If anyone is upgrading to a new vacuum cleaner and has an electrically safe older model looking for a new home, please keep the club in mind. We intend to keep up with lighting the sauna in the afternoon before social functions, and some members are interested in lighting up and letting others know when they are planning a Finnish-style cleansing at other times. The trivia competition was a a great success with a close-run fight for honours with GAMPs the champs!
14 April 2012
We have taken the first steps to protecting the club’s carpark and roads against continuing erosion by rainwater. Swales have been formed in the carpark to direct excess rainfall to the gullies to the side. Later stages of the work will address the erosion of the road entrances.
The tennis court has also been smoothed off lately. Between seasons is the ideal time for a hit of tennis. Don’t forget that there are racquets and balls in the sports locker in the recreation room. We welcome donations of sports equipment in clean and sound condition. Let’s greet the sunny autumn days with a round of healthy outdoor exercise!
